Coaching

I offer a unique combination of run coaching (all the usual things you’d expect from a good run coach) alongside helpful tools and techniques from psychological therapies and mindset coaching.

What does Side by Stride coaching offer you?

A personalised running training programme
I create a programme to help move you towards your goals, based on the UESCA principles and the latest evidence. Plans are usually given in two week blocks, to allow for adjustments due to fatigue, illness, injury, change in goals, and of course, ‘life’!

A monthly video call or phone call
We talk about your running progress, challenges and goals to help keep you moving forward. We focus in on the psychological aspects of your coaching, including any insights from exercises you’ve completed between coaching sessions.

WhatsApp support from me
I’m there on the end of the phone to answer questions, check-in, or chat through things related to training, events etc.

Strength training
I’ll programme you easy-to-follow and effective strength based training (for home or gym) to develop your running, prevent injuries and improve recovery. Sorry, this side of your training is non-negotiable!

Insights and tools from psychological therapy
draw on both Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help you build psychological flexibility. You may be set work to do alongside your running plan.

Race day prep & de-brief
I want to ensure you’re ready for your next challenge, so we’ll talk kit, nutrition advice, pacing and mindset strategies. There’s also the all-important post-race debriefing where we look at what went well, not so well, and learning for the future.

An athlete account on GoodCoach
This is the coaching app I use to enable quick and easy sharing of run programmes and delivery of training sessions directly to your sports watch (e.g. Garmin, Coros).

Testimonials from SbS athletes

The method and motivation behind my coaching

The idea is that running well depends on both physical preparation and psychological skills. Training plans build strength, endurance and fitness, but the way we think, respond to discomfort, and relate to our goals also has a powerful influence on performance and enjoyment.

My experience of running and working with runners of all abilities tells me that all runners experience challenges such as:

  • Losing confidence after an injury or illness, a life event, or a difficult race
  • Struggling with self-doubt or comparison with others
  • Finding it hard to stay motivated or consistent
  • Feeling anxious before runs and races
  • Being overly critical of their performance

The goal is not to eliminate difficult thoughts or feelings — that simply isn’t realistic, or healthy. Instead, it’s about learning how to run well alongside them. To find joy, self-acceptance and self-compassion.

When physical training and psychological skills are developed together, runners often find that they not only perform better, but also experience greater enjoyment, resilience and longevity in the sport.

£120/month – If you want something a bit more intensive, I can offer the full package as above, but with 2 x 60 minute calls per month (or 4 x 30 minutes). This is helpful for people who may need a bit more support on a regular basis. You can move between both packages, as needed.

Fees are payable by BACS on a monthly basis. There is no contract, but I kindly ask for one month’s notice.

Improving access to coaching

I want to be able to help people who may not otherwise be able to afford coaching, due to personal circumstances or other financial difficulties. At any one time, I have a few coaching places reserved for those who are able to make a small, affordable fee. To book your free chat, please share a few details with me and I’ll get in touch.
