Coaching

I offer a unique combination of run coaching (all the usual things you’d expect from a good run coach) alongside helpful tools and techniques from psychological therapies and mindset coaching.

The Importance of training your body and mind

The idea is that running well depends on both physical preparation and psychological skills. Training plans build strength, endurance and fitness, but the way we think, respond to discomfort, and relate to our goals also has a powerful influence on performance and enjoyment.

My experience of running and working with runners of all abilities tells me that all runners experience challenges such as:

  • Losing confidence after an injury or illness, a life event, or a difficult race
  • Struggling with self-doubt or comparison
  • Finding it hard to stay motivated or consistent
  • Feeling anxious before runs and races
  • Being overly critical of their performance

The goal is not to eliminate difficult thoughts or feelings — that simply isn’t realistic, or healthy. Instead, it’s about learning how to run well alongside them. To find joy, self-acceptance and self-compassion.

When physical training and psychological skills are developed together, runners often find that they not only perform better, but also experience greater enjoyment, resilience and longevity in the sport.

Here’s what you get with me as your coach

– A
personalised run training programme – I provide approx 2-3 weeks at a time to allow for adjustments to account for progress or changes to your availability such as fatigue, illness, injury, life commitments etc. All training is provided with a clear explanation as to its function and benefit towards your goals.

60 minute video call every month (£90/month) or fortnight (£150/month) where we talk about your running progress, challenges and goals to help keep you moving forward. We focus in on the psychological aspects of your coaching, including any insights from exercises you’ve completed between coaching sessions.

– Insights from psychological therapy – I draw on both Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help you build psychological flexibility. You may be set work to do alongside your running plan (if you so wish!).

Unlimited WhatsApp support from me to answer questions, check-in, or chat through things related to training, events etc.

Strength training that you can complete at home, or in the gym to support and develop your running, prevent injuries and improve recovery, This will be adapted for your particular needs and goals.

Supporting materials (worksheets, videos, audios) developed specially for my clients, drawing on CBT and ACT principles to enhance your learning and support your coaching and therapy.

Race day prep including kit, nutrition advice & mindset strategies + post-race debriefing

– An athlete account on GoodCoach (coaching app) to enable quick & easy sharing of run programmes, delivering training sessions directly to your sports watch (e.g. Garmin, Coros).

– And it goes without saying, but you’ll get a whole load of support, encouragement, reality checking, challenge and straight talking.

£150/month – If you want something a bit more intensive, I can offer the full package as above, but with 2 x 60 minute calls per month (or 4 x 30 minutes). This is helpful for people who may need a bit more support.
